VRC SURGICAL DEPARTMENT NURSING POSITION 

What: Full Time Benefited Surgical Anesthesia Nurse 

When: Schedule to be determined 

    Who: Certified Veterinary Technicians with experience in surgical patient anesthesia  

    Details: 

    Support the growing caseload of surgical patients through routine administration of quality patient care and nursing. 

    Anticipate clinician needs and assist with appointment and procedures. 

    Perform venipuncture, catheter placement (invasive and noninvasive) and other nursing responsibilities. 

    Maintain the necessary skill sets to set up, sedate/anesthetize a patient, and place the patient in the operating room while maintaining a sterile field.  

    Understand and utilize the proper techniques necessary to maintain a sterile/asceptic patient, procedure area and/or operating room. 

    Confidently and accurately communicate with owners and referring veterinarians as directed by the doctor. 

    Use hospital software and/or documents to accurately record all patient events such as patient visit, care, procedure, anesthesia, surgery, etc. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong veterinary medical knowledge base.
  • Strong veterinary pharmacology knowledge base.
  • Excellent communication skills-oral and written.
  • Excellent organization skills and work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently at times.
  • Competency in venipuncture, catheter placement and other nursing responsibilities
  • Competency in surgical patient anesthesia induction and monitoring.
